Descry is an iPhone app for naming the landscape around you. Stand at a viewpoint, hold up your phone, and it overlays geographic labels along the horizon: which peak is which, where the pass is, how far away that ridge really sits.
It's early. Descry does one thing, and we're making it do that thing well. If the compass is a little off, drag the labels into place with one finger. Automatic alignment to the real skyline is next.

Labels for peaks, passes, and ridges sit right on the live camera image, each with its distance, so you can tell the far summit from the near shoulder.

Descry computes the skyline from exactly where you stand. Mountains hidden behind a nearer ridge stay hidden, or show dimmed if you want to know what's back there.

Geography for your area downloads ahead of time. Everything after that runs on your phone, from the trailhead to the top.

The panorama draws the full 360° horizon around you from the terrain alone, so you can learn the lay of the land before the clouds lift.
